Fontan Education Day 2017
Brisbane
Heart disease is the leading cause of child death in Australia, accounting for one in three childhood deaths. While some patients require only minor surgical procedures, others need major operations, such as the Fontan procedure, to improve their health.
On Saturday, 9 September 2017, the fourth Fontan Education Day will be held in Brisbane at the Lady Cilento Children's Hospital. This forum will provide a very unique opportunity to hear from specialists in paediatric cardiology and congenital heart disease. Like previous years, this is set to be an informative meeting for patients, families and carers, doctors, researchers and allied health workers. It builds on the good works of the Fontan Registry – an Australian and New Zealand database. This initiative is the world’s largest database of Fontan patients, and it involves specialists and researchers working closely together to ensure patients and their families will benefit from the highest standard of evidence-based care and treatment.
The Fontan Education Day will provide the opportunity for patients and their families to hear from experts in the field, and importantly, will also share patient insights and lived experience.
Parental guidance is advised as some of the topics discussed will contain sensitive information. We will be filming the presentations and taking photographs to showcase the event.
Refreshments: Please note that the ticket price includes morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea (note any dietary requirements in your registration).
